Never Doubt Nadine, by Roger Skrypczak is a mystery full of romance. I loved this book full of intrigue and love. It starts with a foursome that is celebrating their first wedding anniversary. They were married a year ago in a double ceremony which had some issues with a murder during the reception. They decided to head to a delightful restaurant for dinner and were interrupted by the beautiful Nadine. Now that they were all in their 60s they had a lot of history with each other. Nadine was the Head Coach of the basketball team at the University of Wisconsin and since, Phil, our main character was a reporter he had interviewed her several times before. Ralph and Nadine lock eyes and our story officially begins. There are twists and turns in this mystery and in the relataionships of the people involved. It would be a book for mystery lovers as well as adult romance enthusists.

Roger Skrypczak brings to the modern reader a beautiful story of intrigue and mystery in his novel Never Doubt Nadine. The writer's first-person narrative allows the reader access to the mind of our protagonist, Phil Bressler, an investigative reporter who isn't afraid to ask the tough questions and go where other characters may avoid. Is Nadine trustworthy? Should she be doubted? Is Ralph telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Is Phil a reliable narrator or does he have certain biases from history past? Skrypczak takes the reader on a journey of discovery, where not everything is as it seems and where the characters keep secrets. In a story like this, where trust is in short supply, watch out for any red herrings, and don’t be fooled! Skrypczak will keep you guessing until the very end. Any fans of classic noir will find this to be an enjoyable and quick read!

I felt like I was reading the behind the scenes scoop of a private investigator. The book narration supplied a lot of fun moments that made me think more about what could possibly happen in the story. I was happy the perspective followed the writer instead of another character because I think I gained more from reading the investigative perspective. The book also takes careful time to chart a long genealogy of what happened in the past, and present for the main character. In the very beginning of the book, we receive a snapshot of what happened prior to the story that was written. I enjoyed knowing this information as I was continuing to read because it gave me the opportunity to feel like a fly on the wall during dramatized moments.

Roger writes in a relatable style with nuggets to intrigue and inspire the reader. With bits about Wisconsin and personalities of real people, I truly enjoyed the story.
